"I Can Only Imagine" Lyrics:
I can only imagine
What it will be like
When I walk
By your side
I can only imagine
What my eyes will see
When your face
Is before me
I can only imagine
[Chorus:]
Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
When that day comes
And I find myself
Standing in the Son
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagine [x2]
I can only imagine
When all I will do
Is forever, forever worship you
Reflection:
What will heaven be like? That’s a question that’s often asked and I’ve
even pondered it myself. As the song
says, “I can only imagine.” What we can
say for certain about heaven is that it’s a place for all eternity that we will
be able to praise the Triune God – God the Father, God the Son, and God the
Holy Spirit – and it will be awesome!
Here on earth, we can already see God, but He’s seen through
something. Meaning, we can see and know
God’s glory in a magnificent sunset over Matagorda Bay, we see Him through
another person’s holiness and love for others, we can see God in infants and
young children through the joy they have, and of course, we see God in the
sacraments of the Church, just to name a few.
However, what they all have in common is that we come to know God
through something. In heaven, we will
see God as He is. There are no sunsets
or sacraments in heaven because they won’t be necessary. Once in heaven, we will see God’s beauty
radiating forth from his very self. What
that will be like, well we can only imagine.
Psalm 138:1 – “I thank you, Lord,
with all my heart. In the presence of
the angels I will sing to you.”
Revelation 7:11-12 – “All the
angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living
creatures. They prostrated themselves
before the throne, worshiped God, and exclaimed: ‘Amen. Blessing and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving,
honor, power, and might be to our God forever and ever. Amen.’”
