"Glorious Day" Lryics

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises
One day when sin was as black as could be
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin
Dwelt among men, my example is He
Word became flesh and the light shined among us
His glory revealed

[Chorus:]
Living, He loved me
Dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away
Rising, He justified freely forever
One day He's coming
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day

One day they led Him up Calvary's mountain
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected
Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He
Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me

[Chorus]

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer
One day the stone rolled away from the door
Then He arose, over death He had conquered
Now He's ascended, my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him
From rising again

[Chorus]

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming
One day the skies with His glories will shine
Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing
My Savior, Jesus, is mine

[Chorus]

Glorious day, Oh, Glorious day

Reflection:

This powerful song speaks to the heart about God's love for us. As the group, Casting Crowns, reminds us, with "hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree" Jesus "took the nails" for you and me. He bore our sins; he rose to bring us new life for "death could not hold him, the grave could not keep him..." Can we ever fully comprehend what the Lord Jesus has done for us; that he would be willing to die for love of us? I do not believe we will ever have an answer to this question, at least not on this side of life, but we have Jesus who shows us his love every day and we have his promise that we will return for us. Our Savior is coming again for "one day the trumpet will sound for His coming." Yes, every day, connected to our Loving Lord, is a "Glorious Day!"

1 Corinthians 2:9 - "But as it is written: 'What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard, and what has not entered the human heart, what God has prepared for those who love him..."

Romans 8:18 - "I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us"

Song of The Week (7/20 - 7/26) - "Better Is One Day" by: Matt Redman

"Better Is One Day" Lyrics

How lovely is Your dwelling place,
Oh Lord Almighty
My soul longs and even faints for You
For here my heart is satisfied,
within Your presence
I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings

Better is one day in Your courts
Better is one day in Your house
Better is one day in Your courts
Than thousands elsewhere

One thing I ask and I would seek,
to see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells

My heart and flesh cry out,
For You the living God
Your spirit's water for my soul
I've tasted and I've seen,
Come once again to me
I will draw near to You
I will draw near to You

Reflection:

The song Better is One Day is a song that relates to us just how great building up the kingdom of God is because when we are doing that, we are with God. Being with God and doing what God asks from us, which ranges from avoiding sin and doing good to the giving of our time in various ministries, is better and more joyful for us than doing anything else. You see, God knows us better than anyone else. He knows us better than our spouses, parents, or children know us. So to do the will of God brings genuine love and happiness to the individual. As St. Augustine said so eloquently in the fourth century, “You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” When we are doing God’s will on earth, our hearts will be restless because we are then doing what God created us for and that is where we will find true joy, happiness, and peace. Then we can sing with Matt Redman and say that it is truly better to spend one day with God than a thousand elsewhere, even a tropical island.

Psalm 139:14 – “I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works! My very self you know.”

John 15:16 – “It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give you.”

"Crucify Him" Lyrics:

I sing, "Hosanna!" when I want it all.
Then I crucify the Son of God.
Cause He isn't who I always thought.
Not what I want, but what I needed.
I sing, "How great and mighty is the King!"
Just as long as He considers me
High above every other thing.
Even His glory.

Broken like a record.
Spinning round and round
Like a hurricane.
I pour out water then I disappear.
Reappearing when I fear enough,
Or need a touch from You.
I sing, "Hosanna!" once again
Then I say, "Crucify Him!"

It's packaged differently than Pharisees.
Wrapped in sing-a-longs and Christianese.
Empty hallelujahs to the King.
When my heart is loving idols.
A man of sorrows acquainted with grief,
He had no form; He had no majesty.
How could He have the audacity
To ask me to give Him my tomorrow?

Broken like a record.
Spinning round and round
Like a hurricane.
I pour out water then I disappear.
Reappearing when I fear enough,
Or need a touch from You.
I sing, "Hosanna!" once again
Then I say, "Crucify Him!"

Forgiveness,
Forgiveness and love.

Reflection:

This song speaks directly to our second reading on the Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time. St. Paul, writing to the people of Rome states, “We groan within ourselves as we wait for… the redemption of our bodies.” All of us deal with sin and until our bodies are redeemed at the Second Coming of Christ, it is a struggle we will fight daily. When we are baptized, we are cleansed of Original Sin, but its affects remain. This is what the Church calls “concupiscence” (pronounced: kon-kyoo-pis-uhns). “Concupiscence” is that inclination we have to still sin. This song Crucify Him speaks directly to this struggle we all have. We praise God with our lips, but yet very easily do we turn away from God and turn to our own idols. This is when we yell “crucify him!” It’s no coincidence that on Good Friday, we participate in the Passion Narrative by proclaiming those words, “crucify him!” But the glorious truth to all of this is that Christ did die for all of our sins and there is not one sin that is unforgivable. Every time we sin, we need to humble ourselves and keep turning back to him. God will and wants to forgive us, but we have to ask for it. He won’t force his forgiveness and mercy on us, but God so desperately wants to grant us his forgiveness. As Pope Francis said, “God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy.” It is a struggle every day we must endure, this struggle of not sinning, but it is possible. How do I know? Because the saints have shown us that it is.

Psalm 136:1 – “Praise the LORD for he is good; for his mercy endures forever.”

1 Peter 2:24 – “He himself bore our sins in his body upon the cross, so that, free from sin, we might live for righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.”

Song of The Week (7/6 - 7/12) - "This Is Amazing Grace" by: Phil Wickham

"This Is Amazing Grace" Lyrics

Who breaks the power of sin and darkness
Whose love is mighty and so much stronger
The King of Glory, the King above all kings

Who shakes the whole earth with holy thunder
And leaves us breathless in awe and wonder
The King of Glory, the King above all kings

This is amazing grace
This is unfailing love
That You would take my place
That You would bear my cross
You lay down Your life
That I would be set free
Oh, Jesus, I sing for
All that You've done for me

Who brings our chaos back into order
Who makes the orphan a son and daughter
The King of Glory, the King of Glory

Who rules the nations with truth and justice
Shines like the sun in all of its brilliance
The King of Glory, the King above all kings

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy is the King who conquered the grave
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
Worthy, worthy, worthy
Oh...

Reflection:

Amazing Grace is one of the best known Christian songs in the world. Phil Wickham's version of this classic offers an upbeat and profoundly worded experience, which directly speaks to the heart. The words, "You'd lay down Your life that I would be set free. Oh, Jesus, I sing for all that You've done for me" reminds us of the price Jesus has paid for our freedom. Who could refuse to sing to our Savior, when we reflect upon all God does for us every day. So often we find ourselves in chains of our own making; chains of sin, deception, conceit and darkness. By dying for us, Jesus has set us free. It is Jesus, as Phil Wickham reminds us, who "brings our chaos back into order; who makes the orphan a son and daughter." This indeed is amazing grace!

Psalm 118:5 - "Out of my distress I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free."

Galatians 5:13 - "For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another."
