"Oceans" Lyrics

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

Fear is a great tool of the devil.  He knows that human beings enjoy certainty and when things don’t go as planned, panic and anxiety easily set in.  We’re often left feeling alone and abandoned and wondering why God isn’t answering our prayers.  When we’re feeling all of these emotions and doubts, that’s when the devil will really work on us; to get us to truly doubt that God is there for us.  However, we are reminded in this song that He is there.  God is there among the waves and stormy seas of our lives.  No matter how dark or how bleak life’s troubles may seem, God is in the midst of it all.  He didn’t abandon the Israelites in the Old Testament, when time and again they promised faith and fidelity to God and then would turn against Him.  God didn’t abandon Jesus on the cross when even Jesus himself wondered if God was there (cf. Matthew 27:46).  God will not abandon us.  Fear and doubt is from the devil.
Psalm 23:4 – “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”

Deuteronomy 31:6 – “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear or be in dread of them: for it is the LORD your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you.”

Matthew 14:27 – “And they cried out in fear.  But immediately Jesus spoke to them saying, ‘Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.’”
